Black Light

"By 2008 although I was still painting it was few and far between, it was upon entering the 'John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize' in 2006 that I realised how much I still needed and wanted to paint, it was this along with a few major events and incidents around this time that made reassess my lifestyle, future and most importantly what I needed to do about my situation.

So in 2008 I left a soul destroying job of 8 years and embarked on the 'Black Light' series, one of which was entered into the "25th John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize'. I found it was hard to stop painting and there were many times I probably should have stopped but restarted, I
enjoyed working a canvas so heavily and the fact that there are at least 6-7 originals layered underneath if sanded down.

The final canvasses are to be viewed in Black Light (UV) at night so the base colours show through the lost layers."
